Chairman of the National Housing Trust (NHT) Howard Mitchell is raising objections to the government’s decision to secure a loan from the agency to fund its drought mitigation efforts.
Water and Housing Minister, Dr Horace Chang has said that a loan application has been submitted to the Trust for $477 million and is expected to be signed shortly.
Dr Chang had made the announcement last month at a Gleaner Editor’s Forum.
However, the NHT Chairman is of the view that there are alternative sources of funding.
He said the NHT has sought the solicitor general’s advice on the loan request.
